John Mattos has Gold and Silver Medals from The New York Society of Illustrators, Los Angeles Society of Illustrators, San Francisco Society of Illustrators, New York Art Directors Club, American Institute of Graphic Arts, and others.

His work is in The Library of Congress, The Smithsonian, The Eli Broad Museum of Contemporary Art, George Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, and other institutions.

He has lectured or contributed artwork to Art Center College of Design, Harvard University, Stanford, Wellesley, McGill (Canada), Art Academy University, California College of Art, U.C. Berkeley, U.C. Santa Cruz, U.C. Chico, U.C. San Jose, U.C. San Francisco, and others. 

John’s Art Poster “Supercharged Pencil” hung for years in Steve Jobs’ Cupertino office, and Disney/Pixar CEO John Lasseter had John’s “Rocketeer” poster framed on his office wall.

His work has been recently featured in Graphis Journal and Classic & Sports Car magazine.

John lives a half block west of Coit Tower on Telegraph Hill in San Francisco.
